Introduction

Here is a special part of my website designed to show case my past and present work. On this page, you’ll find pictures and animation along with detailed descriptions on the work that I’ve done and an approximate date or year that I published it. This is the first time a lot of this work will ever be officially shown to the public, so please feel free to email me and tell me what you think.

Please note that all of the work presented here, whether present in the image itself or not, is under personal copyright and may not be posted anywhere other than this site without my prior written permission. Thanks for understanding.

Futuristic 3D Tunnel - 2002 and 2006
Software:
Anim8or
MS Paint

Original

Made back in 6th grade, this was one of my first 3D scenes I made. The idea to do this was based off of our art class, in which we were learning how to do distance and perspective. I got bored and decided to take my perspective example and make it into a tunnel. Low and behold that night, it became the reference art for my first scene I ever model and render.

About 5 years later, I decided to return to the original idea to prove to myself that I could do better.

Snowman - 2006?
Software:
3D Studio Max

Rendered

Someone on an old forum I used to visit was having some inspiration trouble, so I decided to give him a lending hand by presenting him with a very simple example of what a snowman in 3D might look like both unrendered and rendered.

Unrendered

Arcane Plant - 2006
Software:
3D Studio Max

3D Remake

A good old friend of mine Snerlin had worked voluntarily for the longest time as a sprite artist in an MMO project I had been working with on and off for years now. He had designed a beautiful looking plant that I now refer to as the Arcane Plant, using software little more powerful then Paint. I decided that in order to challenge myself, I would take his sprite and make it 3D. I have to say, I'm personally very proud of the end results.

Jack-o-Lantern Skin Test - 2006
Software:
3D Studio Max

When watching a few movies, I couldn't help but to notice that the key to things such as candle like, was the fact that the light actually seemed to bleed through the wax of the candle itself. It quickly came to me, that something like that must be possible to replicate in 3D Studio Max, considering the imense amount of power the program has. With that said, I looked around the internet for some tutorials or guides on how to do such an effect, and stumbled upon a great article that showed how to use skin materials in Max. Halloween was just around the corner, so I figured why not try to do Jack-o-Lantern, because like candles, the light from the inside seems to go through the pumpkin itself when in complete darkness.

You'll also notice that in addition to the skin material, I was also experimenting with volumetric lighting which I would have used much more frequently if my computer could render images using it, faster at the time. So despite having a basic idea of how it worked, I rarely used it.

ArcaneTale Titlescreen - 2006
Software:
Multimedia Fusion 2
3D Studio Max

Many who know me might be able to easily identify ArcaneTale as the game I have been working on for over 5 years and never really got much further then basic online movement. Why? I think it's because despite enjoying working on the game, I couldn't keep my hands off of simply just wanting to work on the titlescreen or the heads up display.

CassataGames Logo - 2005 to 2008
Software:
3D Studio Max
Adobe Photoshop

Though many of these logos all went unseen, the CassataGames logo is perhaps the single most updated piece of work I have to date. The main reason being simply because I wanted as I progressed, to have a logo that consistantly presented my current abilities and tastes in style. It's fun to look back and see how the logo has slowly evolved from piece to piece, while still keeping consistency in some areas in which I felt fine with.

Earth from Moon - 2006 to 2007
Software:
3D Studio Max

Original

By far my most acclaimed and prideful piece of work. The idea spawned from the idea of wondering what it would be like to watch the earth set over the night sky as if you were on the moon. The idea went a step farther by presenting this image in a form that made you feel like you were still on Earth.

Remake

To my personal honor, many friends of mine still to this day use this as their wallpaper, and my own mother insisted I make it into a shirt. I remade it a year later, fixing everything people gave me critique on, and the newest version again, to this day, is perhaps my favorite piece I've ever made.

Twilight Wallpaper - 2008
Software:
Photoshop

So I finally read a very large book, and it inspired me in so many ways. What's even more is the fact that the book was being made into a movie, so I actually had an idea of who the actors would be. I decided it would without a doubt be worth my while to create a wallpaper that like my above piece of work, is still being used by a couple of friends. Yay Twilighters!!

Energy Easter Eggs - 2008
Software:
Photoshop
3D Studio Max

This past Easter, with nothing to do, I decided I'd give a shot at some new techniques, particularly creating a nice looking flow of energy in Photoshop. I wanted to stick with a theme though, so I made an egg in 3D Studio Max using a Photoshop made texture and then again using Photoshop, pulled the hue around to get all the various colors of the egg.

Auxion Divison - 2008
Software:
Photoshop

A friend of mine and I were in the process of planning out a game we intended to make. The plans didn't get too far because we had other things to do over the summer, but I had an uncontrollable urge to create a logo for the game never the less. It's kind of disappointing, because the logo gets me pumped for a game that most likely wont exist. Who knows?

The Aurora Trail Cover - 2008
Software:
Photoshop

Similar to the above piece for Auxion Divison, The Aurora Trail is a book that I have been writing on and off for the past several months now. Likewise though, despite most of my creativity going into the writing itself, I had an uncontrollable urge to make a book cover or even a movie poster, just because I had to see for myself, what it might look like! It's an obsession.

Diamond Revolution 3 Spritesheet - 2008
Software:
3D Studio Max

I started working on a new version of Diamond: Revolution, but soon after I started, I had to sir come to the fact that I really wasn't doing this because I wanted to make a new game, I was doing it because I wanted to make new graphics. Again, my need to create things that look pretty, is both a passion and an obsession.

Vitalize Logo - 2008
Software:
Photoshop

A company known as Clickteam was getting ready to release a new version of their browser plug-in Vitalize. They had posted information on a forum asking people to contribute their logo designs. Naturally the stuck up company picked someone elses logo over mine, but never the less it's a piece of my artwork to show.

Large Mechanical Spider
Software:
3D Studio Max

Inspired by the release of the Transformers Movie, I decided to finally try out something fully animated. In this case, I wanted to try to do a mechanical spider with working bones and joints that allowed me maximum control with minimum effort. As you can see in the video links I have posted below, I think it was a flawless success in my mind.
Naturally as I started working on it, 8 legs became a tad overwhelming, but all and all the animation took me all of less then a day to create and 15 minutes to render.

Spider Video #1 (820KB)
Spider Video #2 (1,466KB)
These videos should stream properly in Windows Media Player.

Frylock - 2007
Software:
3D Studio Max

Bored out of my mind and really wanting to create something, I took the first thing that came to mind. I decided I'd try to model Frylock from the show Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Actual Image of Frylock from the show.

Website Competition Design - 2006
Software:
Photoshop

There was a competition on a site I commonly visit to design a theme for a competition. The top selected themes will be included in the new theme selector. I wasn't picked, but obviously it didn't discourage me. Once again, it's still a piece of work that belongs in my portfolio.

Shapes and Fabric Testing
Software:
3D Studio Max

Shapes, reflective, and lighting testing.

Shapes, reflective, and lighting testing, in addition to leather fabric and physics testing.

A few experemental renders demonstrating work with various techniques in single renders.
